Every year Tasmania SES responds to hundreds of storm-related calls for assistance.

Tasmania SES is introducing the Storm Warning System, launching in early May 2026.

This system is designed to make warnings clearer, simpler, and easier to understand – so you know what to do to stay safe.

The system will bring storm warnings in line with how Tasmania already warns for floods and bushfires, making it easier to recognise and understand. It uses the same national warning system used across Australia, the Australian Warning System.

A warning provides point-in-time information about a hazard that is impacting or is expected to impact communities. It describes the impact and expected consequences for communities and includes advice on what people should do.

Just like flood and bushfire warnings you will see three warning levels and a nationally consistent set of icons:

Nasihat (Kuning)
An incident has started. There is no immediate danger. Stay up to date in case the situation changes.
Tonton dan Bertindak (Oren):
There is a heightened level of threat. Conditions are changing and you need to start taking action now to protect you and your family.
Amaran Kecemasan (Merah):
Amaran Kecemasan adalah tahap amaran tertinggi. Anda mungkin dalam bahaya dan perlu mengambil tindakan segera. Sebarang kelewatan kini meletakkan nyawa anda dalam risiko.

Calls to action:

Each warning level has a set of action statements to give the community clearer advice about what to do.

Calls to Action can be used flexibly across all three warning levels depending on the hazard.
