Say Thank You to SES volunteers

On Wednesday 20th May 2026, Tasmanians are encouraged to wear orange and show their support for the incredible SES volunteers who help keep communities safe across the state.

Held during National Volunteer Week (18–24 May 2026), Wear Orange Wednesday (WOW Day) is a national day of recognition for the many Tasmania State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers who dedicate their time to supporting communities during emergencies and times of need.

From storm and flood response, to road crash rescue, search operations and community preparedness activities, SES volunteers play a vital role in helping communities prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies.

In 2026, Tasmania SES proudly marks its 50th Anniversary — recognising five decades of volunteers supporting, protecting and serving communities across Tasmania.

How You Can Get Involved

There are many ways individuals, workplaces, schools, businesses and community groups can show their support for SES volunteers this WOW Day, including:

  • Wear orange on Wednesday 20 May
  • Host a WOW Day themed morning or afternoon tea
  • Decorate your workplace, school or community space in orange
  • Share a thank you message for SES volunteers on social media
  • Change your profile picture or email banner to support WOW Day
  • Promote WOW Day through your organisation’s communication channels
  • Take a photo in orange and sent it to volunteers@ses.tas.gov.au

WOW Day is an opportunity for all Tasmanians to recognise and thank the volunteers who give their time to help others and make a real difference.
