Tasmanians are urged to prepare for widespread rainfall and flooding, forecast from tomorrow evening until Friday morning.

“Advice received from the Bureau of Meteorology today forecasts that heavy and consistent rain is likely from tomorrow evening, across Thursday, clearing Friday morning,” said Tasmania SES Acting Director, Leon Smith.

“The forecast is for steady and significant rain state-wide, and specifically intense rainfall in the north and north-west.”

Widespread minor to moderate flooding is likely from Thursday. Major flooding is possible at some locations. Localised flooding is possible in small creeks and low lying areas in locations that receive heavy rainfall.

“People are encouraged to be aware of the forecast and prepare their property before the rain arrives – this means knowing your flood risk and understanding whether your property is prone to flooding.

People should review their household emergency kit and flood emergency plan, including evacuation triggers now. Livestock and animals should be moved to higher ground, out of flood prone areas.

“With the ground being saturated in many areas of Tasmania, rivers will rise quickly over coming days,” said Mr Smith.
