SES Tasmania provides a rainfall and river alerting service through TasALERT.

The Rainfall and River Alert system provides alerts of

  • heavy rain and
  • river rises

in selected rural locations.

The Alerts help farmers and others decide if they need to act. For example, they may move livestock and farming equipment from flood prone land.

TasALERT is the home of emergency information and warnings for Tasmanians.

TasALERT provides users with control over the Alerts they receive. They can receive Alerts as emails and push notifications on their mobile device.

Why are these changes happening?

Technology improvements are changing the way the Alerts are delivered. Over time the alerts have been telegrams, faxes, emails, and SMS.

For the last 20 years the Bureau of Meteorology has provided the service for SES Tasmania.

SES Tasmania can now provide these alerts through TasALERT, just like TasALERT provides flood warnings and other emergency information.

For any questions on the SES Rainfall and River Alert service email ses@ses.tas.gov.au or call 6173 2700.
