Significant rainfall overnight has resulted in rising floodwaters across the north and northwest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yesterday, the State Emergency Service made the decision to issue Emergency Warnings to Evacuate for a number of communities, to give them plenty of time to respond in daylight hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SES is closely monitoring the Ringarooma, North Esk, South Esk, St Patricks, Forth and Ouse Rivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The State Emergency Service Acting Director, Leon Smith, advises that \u201cFlood inundation modelling from the 2016 event has been used to inform our response and we are well prepared for this significant and protracted event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201c\u7dca\u6025\u8b66\u5831\u5df2\u555f\u52d5\uff0c\u5c07\u76f4\u63a5\u50b3\u9001\u8a0a\u606f\u81f3\u53d7\u5f71\u97ff\u64a4\u96e2\u5340\u5167\u6240\u6709\u624b\u6a5f\u53ca\u56fa\u5b9a\u96fb\u8a71\u7528\u6236\u3002\u7dca\u6025\u6551\u8b77\u670d\u52d9 (SES) \u5df2\u5c0d\u53ef\u80fd\u53d7\u5f71\u97ff\u7684\u623f\u5c4b\u9032\u884c\u6572\u9580\u901a\u77e5\u3002.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhile rain is expected to ease through Friday, floodwaters will continue to pose a threat for some time and it will take several days before the floodwaters subside.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overnight, SES were advised by TasWater of a dam at risk of failure at Lake Isandula, near Gawler. An emergency alert was issued to the community to evacuate the area immediately including 42 residences. Houses in the at-risk area were also door-knocked to ensure residents were able to evacuate safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
TasWater has advised that the dam level has now stopped increasing and is considered stable. A full assessment will be conducted at first light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
70 residences in the Newstead area in Launceston were also evacuated overnight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overnight, the SES received 147 calls to the 132 500 number, and responded to 39 requests for assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Tasmania Emergency Information Service has also been established to provide flood-affected communities with general information throughout this weather event. People can call 6145 5303 for the cost of a local call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has advised that this a significant rain event that will continue to impact the north and north-west of the state until early Friday morning with ongoing flooding into next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
