Other waterways in this area that could flood include<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sulphur Creek, in the suburb of Sulphur Creek<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heybridge Rivulet, in Howth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Blythe River, in Heybridge and Camena<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Adams Creek, in Riana.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There could also be flooding caused by direct rainfall, or flash flooding, depending on where the rain falls and how heavy it is. If there is a storm during a high tide, or with big waves, there may also be coastal flooding in some parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the town of <strong>Penguin<\/strong> some streets around the creek may flood in moderate to major events. These include<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The bridge on Hayward Street over Penguin Creek may flood preventing access to<ul><li>Stubbs Court<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Howe Lane<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Killara Avenue<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>Melli Court, and<\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Carroo Court.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In this part of Penguin, multiple houses may flood above floor height in a major event.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Browns Lane may flood, cutting off several properties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Deviation Creek may rise, causing local flooding on Deviation Street and Main Road<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Very heavy rain could overwhelm the stormwater system and flood low lying properties and parkland throughout the town.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>Sulphur Creek <\/strong>a major flood could affect Preservation Drive, closing the road, and properties on<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Waterford Drive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bayvista Crescent, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sandhaven Crescent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>Preservation Bay<\/strong> there may be local flooding caused by heavy rain, mostly at the eastern end of the settlement. This will likely be for only a short time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>Heybridge, Howth, Camena and Riana,<\/strong> flooding could close local roads, isolating some properties. The maps in this guide show the level of flooding that has a 1% chance of happening any year, known as the Annual Exceedance Probability (AEP). You are likely to experience flooding such as that shown in the maps in your lifetime. Tasmanians need to prepare for flood events that may not happen often as well as the minor flooding they may have experienced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if your home does not flood, you should prepare for isolation plus potential power and telecommunications outages. For example<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Preservation Drive may flood in several places, mostly in Sulphur Creek<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Hayward Street Bridge in Penguin could be under water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The western end of Main Street in Penguin could be closed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Camena Road, Stotts Road, Midgleys Road and other rural roads may be impassable.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Travel in the area is likely to be difficult or impossible until roads are clear.&nbsp; If you are safe at home or elsewhere, it is usually best you stay where you are until the flooding subsides, unless there is an emergency. If you need to evacuate, you should leave early, before flood waters rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to TasALERT.com or listen to ABC local radio 91.7 FM for warnings and advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u60a8\u6709\u6d2a\u6c34\u98a8\u96aa\u55ce\uff1f<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Penguin Creek has flooded on several occasions in recent history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Houses were flooded in 1977<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In January 2011 the area experienced extensive flooding with widespread damage and isolation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In October 2022 there was moderate flood damage along Penguin Creek and roads in the area, but not above the floor level of houses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u6211\u61c9\u8a72\u505a\u4ec0\u9ebc\uff1f<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u6aa2\u67e5\u5730\u5716\uff0c\u770b\u770b\u60a8\u7684\u4f4f\u5b85\u6216\u4f01\u696d\u662f\u5426\u53ef\u80fd\u906d\u53d7\u6d2a\u6c34\u4fb5\u8972\u3002.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u8a55\u4f30\u60a8\u7684\u4f4f\u5bb6\u6216\u516c\u53f8\uff0c\u4e26\u505a\u597d\u6e96\u5099\u4ee5\u76e1\u91cf\u6e1b\u5c11\u6f5b\u5728\u7684\u6d2a\u6c34\u640d\u5bb3\u3002.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u6aa2\u67e5\u60a8\u662f\u5426\u80fd\u5728\u6d2a\u6c34\u671f\u9593\u5b89\u5168\u5730\u62b5\u9054\u5bb6\u4e2d\u3001\u5de5\u4f5c\u5730\u9ede\u6216\u5b78\u6821\u3002.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare your home or business to minimise possible flood damage. If you must have access to services, you may need to evacuate early.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u50cf\u5716\u4e2d\u6240\u793a\u7684\u6d2a\u6c34\uff0c\u6216\u66f4\u7cdf\u7684\u6d2a\u6c34\uff0c\u5c07\u6703\u518d\u6b21\u767c\u751f\u3002\u6c92\u6709\u5169\u6b21\u6d2a\u6c34\u662f\u5b8c\u5168\u4e00\u6a23\u7684\u3002.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u5982\u679c\u60a8\u5c45\u4f4f\u5728\u4f4e\u7aaa\u5730\u5340\u6216\u9760\u8fd1\u6c34\u9053\uff0c\u60a8\u7684\u623f\u5c4b\u53ef\u80fd\u6703\u88ab\u6df9\u6c92\u3002\u5373\u4f7f\u60a8\u7684\u4f4f\u6240\u5b89\u5168\uff0c\u60a8\u4e5f\u53ef\u80fd\u9700\u8981\u7e5e\u904e\u6df9\u6c34\u5730\u5340\uff0c\u6216\u8005\u60a8\u7684\u9053\u8def\u901a\u884c\u53ef\u80fd\u6703\u88ab\u963b\u65b7\u3002\u5207\u52ff\u99d5\u8eca\u9032\u5165\u6216\u8eab\u8655\u6d2a\u6c34\u4e4b\u4e2d\u3002\u9053\u8def\u548c\u6a4b\u6a11\u53ef\u80fd\u6703\u88ab\u6c96\u6bc0\u6216\u4e0d\u5b89\u5168\u3002\u6d2a\u6c34\u671f\u9593\u8acb\u907f\u514d\u51fa\u884c\u3002.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u77e5\u9053\u8a72\u600e\u9ebc\u505a\u53ef\u4ee5\u62ef\u6551\u4f60\u7684\u751f\u547d\u4e26\u4fdd\u8b77\u4f60\u7684\u8ca1\u7522\u3002\u5236\u5b9a\u5bb6\u5ead\u7dca\u6025\u8a08\u756b\u662f\u6700\u597d\u7684\u6e96\u5099\u65b9\u6cd5\u4e4b\u4e00\u3002\u6c7a\u5b9a\u5929\u6c23\u548c\u964d\u96e8\u7684\u89f8\u767c\u689d\u4ef6\uff0c\u4ee5\u4fbf\u63a1\u53d6\u884c\u52d5\u3002.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"725\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sulphur-Creek-flood-map-725x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Sulphur Creek flood map 1% AEP\" class=\"wp-image-10801\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sulphur-Creek-flood-map-725x1024.jpg 725w, https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sulphur-Creek-flood-map-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sulphur-Creek-flood-map-768x1085.jpg 768w, https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sulphur-Creek-flood-map-1088x1536.jpg 1088w, https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sulphur-Creek-flood-map-1450x2048.jpg 1450w, https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Sulphur-Creek-flood-map-scaled.jpg 1813w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 725px) 100vw, 725px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u4e2d\u592e\u6c23\u8c61\u5c40\u9810\u5831\u3001\u8b66\u5831\u8207\u89c0\u6e2c<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u672c\u5c40\u767c\u4f48 <strong>\u6d2a\u6c34\u8b66\u62a5\u3001\u6076\u52a3\u5929\u6c14\u8b66\u62a5\u548c\/\u6216\u96f7\u66b4\u8b66\u62a5\uff0c\u53ef\u80fd\u56e0\u5f3a\u964d\u96e8\u5f15\u53d1\u5c71\u6d2a\u66b4\u53d1 <\/strong>\u6bcf\u7576 <strong>\u5927\u96e8 <\/strong>\u53ef\u80fd\u6703\u5728\u67d0\u500b\u5340\u57df\u51fa\u73fe\u3002\u5f9e\u767c\u5e03\u9810\u8b66\u5230\u8c6a\u96e8\u767c\u751f\u7684\u6642\u9593\uff0c\u53ef\u80fd\u5f9e\u4e00\u5c0f\u6642\u5230\u4e8c\u5341\u56db\u5c0f\u6642\u4e0d\u7b49\u3002.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whenever rain that may lead to flooding in this area is expected, the Bureau will issue:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A Flood Watch \u2013 a &#8220;heads up&#8221; early advice of forecast weather that may lead to flooding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A Flood Warning \u2013 giving a prediction of when flooding is likely to develop at gauge locations and possibly forecasting the likely peak river level.&nbsp; Warnings are updated regularly.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u96e8\u91cf\u89c0\u6e2c <\/strong>at Forthside, Burnie and Sprent can indicate possible flood risks. Given the very short warning times, it is best to act on the predictive BoM warnings rather than wait for any flood alerts during rainfall. There are no formal warning levels for waterways in this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u9019 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/products\/IDR523.loop.shtml#skip\">West Takone Radar<\/a> is useful to be aware in real-time where heavy rainfall is falling.&nbsp; Even if your property is not flooded, you need to think about access. Different levels of rainfall can cause flooding depending on its intensity, duration and how wet the ground is beforehand and where the rain falls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u5c0f\u7bc4\u570d\u6df9\u6c34<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A minor flood can inundate parkland, drainage areas, low lying paddocks, orchards and other farmland as well as creekside areas in the town of Penguin. If stormwater systems are blocked, local areas of flooding may occur. In coastal areas, if heavy rain occurs during a high tide, this can be more common. Equipment and stock should be moved for their safety, and pets secured. There may also be some flooding across minor roads and low-lying streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u4e2d\u5ea6\u6d2a\u6c34<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There is more extensive flooding of parkland and agricultural land. Some buildings may flood to above floor height. Some properties may be isolated for a few hours as minor roads become flooded. Multiple properties may be flooded and isolated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Blythe River and Heybridge Rivulet will rise, possibly flooding roads in Heybridge and Howth.
