You are likely to have a flood that causes significant damage in the area at least once in your lifetime. Tasmanians need to prepare for flood events that may not happen often as well as the minor flooding they may have experienced.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Glenorchy and Montrose are prone to flash flooding, depending on how rain falls across Kunanyi\/ Mount Wellington. This means there can be little warning before waterways flood. There can also be stormwater run-off in other places if there is heavy rain. This can be difficult to predict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flooding may isolate parts of Glenorchy for up to 6 hours but is more likely to be for just a few hours. You should prepare for isolation plus power or telecommunications outages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some roads around Glenorchy and Montrose may flood. Traffic is likely to be congested. Travel may be difficult or impossible. If you are safe at home or somewhere else you are at the time, it is usually best you stay there until the flooding goes down. If you need to leave during a flood, make sure your route is safe.&nbsp; If your home could become flooded, it is a good idea to think about<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>where you would go, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how you could get there.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u60a8\u6709\u6d2a\u6c34\u98ce\u9669\u5417\uff1f<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Past flooding events around Glenorchy include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>May 2018 &#8211; The Southern Tasmanian Extreme Weather Event caused flooding around Hobart. There was 236mm of rain on Kunanyi\/ Mount Wellington.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>April 1960 &#8211; About 200mm of rain fell over 3 days causing damage across Hobart.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>June 1947 \u2013 Two separate flooding events impacted Glenorchy and Montrose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What should I do to prepare?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check the map to see whether your home or business is at risk of being flooded. If it is, you should have a plan for leaving during a flood event. For example, you might go to nearby family or friends who are not at risk of flooding. During a flood event, go to <a href=\"http:\/\/Tasmanians need to prepare for flood events that may not happen often as well as the minor flooding they may have experienced.\">TasALERT.com<\/a> or listen to ABC local radio to find out about evacuation centres or other places to shelter.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check if you can safely get to your home, work, or school during a flood. If you need to leave during a flood, make sure your route is safe or leave early before floodwaters rise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare your home or business to minimise possible flood damage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare a Home Emergency Plan. No two floods are the same.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u5982\u679c\u60a8\u4f4f\u5728\u4f4e\u6d3c\u5730\u533a\u6216\u9760\u8fd1\u6c34\u9053\uff0c\u60a8\u7684\u623f\u5c4b\u53ef\u80fd\u4f1a\u88ab\u6df9\u6ca1\u3002\u5373\u4f7f\u60a8\u7684\u5bb6\u662f\u5b89\u5168\u7684\uff0c\u60a8\u4e5f\u53ef\u80fd\u9700\u8981\u7ed5\u8fc7\u6d2a\u6c34\u5730\u533a\uff0c\u6216\u8005\u60a8\u7684\u9053\u8def\u901a\u884c\u53ef\u80fd\u4f1a\u53d7\u5230\u963b\u788d\u3002\u5207\u52ff\u9a7e\u8f66\u8fdb\u5165\u6216\u8fdb\u5165\u6d2a\u6c34\u533a\u57df\u3002\u9053\u8def\u548c\u6865\u6881\u53ef\u80fd\u88ab\u51b2\u6bc1\u6216\u4e0d\u5b89\u5168\u3002\u8bf7\u907f\u514d\u5728\u6d2a\u6c34\u671f\u95f4\u51fa\u884c\u3002.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>\u4e86\u89e3\u8be5\u600e\u4e48\u505a\u53ef\u4ee5\u62ef\u6551\u4f60\u7684\u751f\u547d\u5e76\u5e2e\u52a9\u4fdd\u62a4\u4f60\u7684\u8d22\u4ea7\u3002\u5236\u5b9a\u5bb6\u5ead\u5e94\u6025\u8ba1\u5212\u662f\u51c6\u5907\u5de5\u4f5c\u7684\u6700\u4f73\u65b9\u6cd5\u4e4b\u4e00\u3002\u51b3\u5b9a\u5929\u6c14\u548c\u964d\u96e8\u89e6\u53d1\u6761\u4ef6\uff0c\u4ee5\u4fbf\u77e5\u9053\u4f55\u65f6\u91c7\u53d6\u884c\u52a8\u3002.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u6fb3\u5927\u5229\u4e9a\u6c14\u8c61\u5c40\u5929\u6c14\u9884\u62a5\u3001\u8b66\u544a\u548c\u89c2\u6d4b<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Whenever <strong>\u5927\u96e8<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>is expected in an area, the Bureau issues<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a Flood Watch<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Severe Weather Warning and\/or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thunderstorm Warning for heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The time between the warning and<strong> <\/strong>heavy rain falling can vary from an hour to 24 hours or more. It is best to act on the warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology rather than wait for local flooding alerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tracking Rainfall<strong> <\/strong>on Kunanyi\/ Mount Wellington can help predict flooding around Glenorchy and Montrose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u8fd9 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/products\/IDR763.loop.shtml#skip\">Mt Koonya Radar<\/a> is useful to see when and where heavy rainfall is falling.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-normal-font-size\">\u7406\u89e3\u8b66\u544a\u548c\u5173\u952e\u4fe1\u606f<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep aware of what is happening. As soon as an incident is reported, TasALERT publishes basic information.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flood levels around Glenorchy city and suburb<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While no two floods are the same, the following descibes what may happen if there is flooding around Glenorchy and surrounding areas. Even if your property is not flooded, you need to think about access. &nbsp;The rainfall amounts below that might cause such an event are examples: other levels of rainfall can cause flooding depending on<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>how heavy it is<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how long the rain lasts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how wet the ground is beforehand<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how full dams are, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>where the rain falls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Minor Flood<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Glenorchy area has a 5% chance or more of minor flooding happening in a year (Annual Exceedance Probability) This might result from, for example, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>up to about 68mm over 6 hours on Kunanyi\/ Mount Wellington, and\/or <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>about 50mm around Glenorchy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Minor flooding may impact<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>some low-lying areas, around Grove Road,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>some sections of the intercity cycleway and foreshore areas at high tide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Moderate Flood<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Glenorchy has between about 5% and 1% chance of moderate flooding happening in a year. This might result from, for example, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>between 69-86mm in 6 hours on Kunanyi\/ Mount Wellington, or <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>between about 50-65mm around Glenorchy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Moderate flooding may flood some areas of<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Brooker Highway<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grove Road surrounds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Barossa Road\/ Kalang Avenue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Main Road<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Constance Avenue near the Oval<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other low-lying properties near waterways \u2013 see the maps for more details.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Areas particularly at risk include<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>between Terry St and Eady St<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>some areas of Tolosa St<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the end of Moore Park Drive<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nambour Place and surrounds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fleming Road and surrounds<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wright Avenue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Booth Avenue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some parts of Caulfield Avenue, Arnold Street, and McGough Street<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Northgate carpark<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Some school grounds may be inundated at Dominic College, Guilford Young, and Glenorchy Primary School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Major Flood<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Glenorchy has about a 1% chance or less of major flooding in a year in the current climate. This may  result from, for example, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>more than about 87mm in 6 hours or more on Kunanyi\/ Mount Wellingto,n and\/or <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>more than 65mm around Glenorchy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There would be extensive areas of flash flooding around Glenorchy CBD and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Many more areas around Glenorchy CBD, Grove Road and other low-lying areas are likely to be flooded \u2013 see maps for more details.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>While most people will be safe at home until flood waters go down, those around Grove Road, Glenorchy CBD and south of Barossa Creek can move away from flooding towards the Showgrounds and Dowsings Point if needed.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Those north of Barossa Creek and south of Islet Rivulet are likely to be isolated for some hours until flood waters go down. Listen to ABC local radio or go to TasALERT.com for advice on where to go if you need to leave your home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Unless there is an emergency or you are not safe where you are, you should shelter where you are during a flooding event.&nbsp; Floods around Hobart rarely last more than a few hours. Traffic is likely to be very congested.
