Only small areas of Lutana and West Moonah are likely to flood. Moonah and surrounding areas are likely to be isolated for some hours as waterways to the north and south flood major routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important you understand what a flood can look like in your area so you can  prepare. You are likely to have a flood that causes significant damage in the area at least once in your lifetime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Glenorchy and Hobart areas are prone to flash flooding, depending on how rain falls across Kunanyi\/ Mount Wellington. This means there can be little warning before waterways flood. There can also be stormwater run-off in other places if there is heavy rain. This can be difficult to predict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Flooding may isolate some areas for up to 6 hours but more likely for just a few hours. You should prepare for short-term isolation plus power or telecommunications outages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some key roads may be flooded. Traffic is likely to be congested. Travel may be difficult or impossible. If you are safe at home or somewhere else you are at the time, it is usually best you stay there until the flooding goes down. If you need to leave during a flood, make sure your route safe.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to <a href=\"http:\/\/tasalert.com\">TasALERT.com <\/a>or listen to ABC local radio 936AM for warnings and advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u60a8\u6709\u6d2a\u6c34\u98ce\u9669\u5417\uff1f<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Past local flood events include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>May 2018 &#8211; The Southern Tasmanian Extreme Weather Event caused flooding around Hobart. There was 236mm of rain on Kunanyi\/ Mount Wellington.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>April 1960 &#8211; About 200mm of rain over 3 days causing damage across Hobart.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>June 1947 \u2013 Two separate flooding events impacted the Glenorchy area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What should I do to be prepared?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check the map to see whether your home or business is at risk of being flooded. If it is, you should have a plan for leaving during a flood event. During a flood event, go to <a href=\"https:\/\/alert.tas.gov.au\/\">\u5854\u65af\u8b66\u62a5<\/a> or listen to ABC local radio to find out about evacuation centres or other places to shelter.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check if you can safely get to your home, work, or school during a flood. If you need to leave during a flood, make sure your route is safe or leave early before floodwaters rise.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare your home or business to minimise possible flood damage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prepare a Home Emergency Plan. No two floods are the same.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u5982\u679c\u60a8\u4f4f\u5728\u4f4e\u6d3c\u5730\u533a\u6216\u9760\u8fd1\u6c34\u9053\uff0c\u60a8\u7684\u623f\u5c4b\u53ef\u80fd\u4f1a\u88ab\u6df9\u6ca1\u3002\u5373\u4f7f\u60a8\u7684\u5bb6\u662f\u5b89\u5168\u7684\uff0c\u60a8\u4e5f\u53ef\u80fd\u9700\u8981\u7ed5\u8fc7\u6d2a\u6c34\u5730\u533a\uff0c\u6216\u8005\u60a8\u7684\u9053\u8def\u901a\u884c\u53ef\u80fd\u4f1a\u53d7\u5230\u963b\u788d\u3002\u5207\u52ff\u9a7e\u8f66\u8fdb\u5165\u6216\u8fdb\u5165\u6d2a\u6c34\u533a\u57df\u3002\u9053\u8def\u548c\u6865\u6881\u53ef\u80fd\u88ab\u51b2\u6bc1\u6216\u4e0d\u5b89\u5168\u3002\u8bf7\u907f\u514d\u5728\u6d2a\u6c34\u671f\u95f4\u51fa\u884c\u3002.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p><strong>\u4e86\u89e3\u8be5\u600e\u4e48\u505a\u53ef\u4ee5\u62ef\u6551\u4f60\u7684\u751f\u547d\u5e76\u5e2e\u52a9\u4fdd\u62a4\u4f60\u7684\u8d22\u4ea7\u3002\u5236\u5b9a\u5bb6\u5ead\u5e94\u6025\u8ba1\u5212\u662f\u51c6\u5907\u5de5\u4f5c\u7684\u6700\u4f73\u65b9\u6cd5\u4e4b\u4e00\u3002\u51b3\u5b9a\u5929\u6c14\u548c\u964d\u96e8\u89e6\u53d1\u6761\u4ef6\uff0c\u4ee5\u4fbf\u77e5\u9053\u4f55\u65f6\u91c7\u53d6\u884c\u52a8\u3002.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<p> To see map information in more detail, go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hobartcity.com.au\/City-services\/Stormwater-and-urban-waterways\/Understanding-flood-risk\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"www.hobartcity.com.au\/City-services\/Stormwater-and-urban-waterways\/Understanding-flood-risk\">Hobart City Council&#8217;s website<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u6fb3\u5927\u5229\u4e9a\u6c14\u8c61\u5c40\u5929\u6c14\u9884\u62a5\u3001\u8b66\u544a\u548c\u89c2\u6d4b<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Whenever <strong>\u5927\u96e8<\/strong><strong> <\/strong>is expected in an area, the Bureau issues<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a Flood Watch<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Severe Weather Warning and\/or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Thunderstorm Warning for heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The time between the warning and<strong> <\/strong>heavy rain falling can vary from an hour to 24 hours or more. Even if your property is not flooded, you need to think about access. &nbsp;The rainfall amounts below that might cause such an event are examples: other levels of rainfall can cause flooding depending on<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>how heavy it is<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how long the rain lasts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how wet the ground is beforehand<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how full dams are, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>where the rain falls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flood levels in Moonah and surrounds<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While no two floods are the same, the following descibes what may happen if there is flooding around Moonah and surrounding areas. Even if your property is not flooded, you need to think about access. &nbsp;The rainfall amounts below that might cause such an event are examples: other levels of rainfall can cause flooding depending on<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>how heavy it is<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how long the rain lasts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how wet the ground is beforehand<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how full dams are, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>where the rain falls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Minor Flood<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This area has a 5% or more chance of happening in a year (Annual Exceedance Probability). This may result from for example<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>up to about 68mm over 6 hours on Kunanyi\/ Mount Wellington, and\/or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>about 50mm around Glenorchy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Minor flooding may impact<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>some low-lying areas and parklands,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>some sections of the of the intercity cycleway and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>foreshore areas at high tide.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Moderate Flood<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Moonah area has between a 5% and 1% chance of moderate flooding in a year. Moderate flooding may result from, for example<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>about 69-86mm in 6 hours on Kunanyi\/ Mount Wellington, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>about 50-65mm at Glenorchy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This level of flooding<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>May flood areas of Brooker Highway, Main Road near Springfield Road and some other low-lying roads<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>May impact some low-lying properties to above floor height.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There is likely to be flooding to the north and south around Glenorchy and Hobart, leading to very congested traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Major Flood<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Moonah area has about a 1% chance of major flooding in a year based on past rainfall records. Major flooding can result from, for example,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>more than about 87mm in 6 hours or more on Kunanyi\/ Mount Wellington, and\/or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>more than 65mm around Glenorchy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Major flooding can impact<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Many areas of Main Road, Albert Road, Hopkins St, Charles St, Springfield Avenue, Derwent Park Road, Brooker Highway and surrounding areas at risk of flooding \u2013 see maps for details.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many properties at risk of flooding to floor height or above \u2013 homes and businesses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Note major flooding can impact many roads and properties to the north and south of this area around<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Glenorchy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New Town and Lenah Valley.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Unless there is an emergency or you are not safe where you are, you should shelter where you are during a flooding event.&nbsp; Floods around Hobart rarely last more than a few hours. Traffic is likely to be very congested.
