Floodwater can cut roads such as<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bass Highway near Elizabeth Town<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Port Sorell Road, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local streets like Rice Street and Seabreeze Avenue in several places.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If there is heavy local rain, other areas can also have flash flooding from local waterways such as<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Panatana Rivulet<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pardoe Creek, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Franklin Rivulet.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In a flash flood, you cannot rely on flood warnings from rivers, only forecasts for heavy rain or severe weather. Higher than usual tides and storms may also increase the risk of flooding in lower lying areas surrounding the Port Sorell waterway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The maps in this guide show the level of flooding that has a 1% chance of happening any year. You are likely to experience flooding such as that shown in the maps in your lifetime. Tasmanians need to prepare for flood events that may not happen often, as well as the minor flooding they may have experienced.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if your home is not inundated, you should be prepared for isolation plus potential power and telecommunications outages.&nbsp; Depending on where the rain falls and how heavy it is, roads throughout the area may be impassable. Travel in the area is likely to be difficult or impossible until the roads are clear.&nbsp; If you are safe at home or elsewhere, it is usually best you stay where you are until the flooding subsides, unless there is an emergency. If you need to evacuate, you should leave early, before flood water rises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Listen to ABC local radio 91.7FM for warnings and advice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u60a8\u6709\u6d2a\u6c34\u98ce\u9669\u5417\uff1f<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Rubicon River has a history of flooding with flooding impacts seen as recently as 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u6211\u5e94\u8be5\u600e\u4e48\u505a\uff1f<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u67e5\u770b\u5730\u56fe\uff0c\u4e86\u89e3\u60a8\u7684\u4f4f\u5b85\u6216\u5546\u5bb6\u662f\u5426\u53ef\u80fd\u53d1\u751f\u6d2a\u6c34\u3002.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u8bc4\u4f30\u60a8\u7684\u4f4f\u5b85\u6216\u4f01\u4e1a\uff0c\u5e76\u505a\u597d\u51c6\u5907\u4ee5\u6700\u5927\u7a0b\u5ea6\u5730\u51cf\u5c11\u6f5c\u5728\u7684\u6d2a\u6c34\u635f\u5bb3\u3002.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u6d2a\u6c34\u671f\u95f4\uff0c\u68c0\u67e5\u60a8\u662f\u5426\u80fd\u591f\u5b89\u5168\u5730\u5230\u8fbe\u5bb6\u3001\u5de5\u4f5c\u5730\u70b9\u6216\u5b66\u6821\u3002.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u51c6\u5907\u5bb6\u5ead\u5e94\u6025\u8ba1\u5212\u3002\u8003\u8651\u662f\u5426\u9700\u8981\u5728\u6d2a\u6c34\u6765\u4e34\u524d\u64a4\u79bb\u3002\u53c2\u89c1&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Get-Ready-Emergency_Digital_7-Oct-2024-ART.pdf\">\u505a\u597d\u5e94\u6025\u51c6\u5907<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 \u4e2a\u4eba\u548c\u5bb6\u5ead\u5e94\u6025\u51c6\u5907\u6307\u5357\u3002.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u5982\u679c\u60a8\u53ef\u80fd\u88ab\u9694\u79bb\u5e76\u4e14\u5fc5\u987b\u83b7\u5f97\u670d\u52a1\uff0c\u60a8\u53ef\u80fd\u9700\u8981\u63d0\u65e9\u64a4\u79bb\u3002.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"725\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Port-Sorell-and-surrounds-1PC-River-and-Overland-flood-extent-with-Coastal-Inundation-Risk-725x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Port Sorell and surrounds flood map 1% AEP\" class=\"wp-image-10786\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Port-Sorell-and-surrounds-1PC-River-and-Overland-flood-extent-with-Coastal-Inundation-Risk-725x1024.jpg 725w, https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Port-Sorell-and-surrounds-1PC-River-and-Overland-flood-extent-with-Coastal-Inundation-Risk-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Port-Sorell-and-surrounds-1PC-River-and-Overland-flood-extent-with-Coastal-Inundation-Risk-768x1085.jpg 768w, https:\/\/d2tv960yzi0spr.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/2026\/01\/Port-Sorell-and-surrounds-1PC-River-and-Overland-flood-extent-with-Coastal-Inundation-Risk.jpg 849w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 725px) 100vw, 725px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u6fb3\u5927\u5229\u4e9a\u6c14\u8c61\u5c40\u5929\u6c14\u9884\u62a5\u3001\u8b66\u544a\u548c\u89c2\u6d4b<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u8be5\u5c40\u53d1\u5e03 <strong>\u7279\u5927\u66b4\u96e8\u9884\u8b66\uff0c\u6076\u52a3\u5929\u6c14\u9884\u8b66\u548c\/\u6216\u96f7\u66b4\u9884\u8b66\uff0c\u53ef\u80fd\u5bfc\u81f4\u5c71\u6d2a\u66b4\u53d1 <\/strong>\u6bcf\u5f53 <strong>\u5927\u96e8 <\/strong>\u8b66\u544a\u548c\u66b4\u96e8\u53d1\u751f\u4e4b\u95f4\u7684\u65f6\u95f4\u53ef\u4ece\u4e00\u5c0f\u65f6\u5230 24 \u5c0f\u65f6\u6216\u66f4\u957f\u65f6\u95f4\u4e0d\u7b49\u3002.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whenever rain that may lead to flooding along the Rubicon River is expected, the Bureau may issue a Flood Watch \u2013 a &#8220;heads up&#8221; early advice of forecast weather that may lead to flooding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SES and the Bureau are unlikely to be able to issue specific local warnings when flooding impacts are observed in this area. There are no formal warning levels for other waterways in the area<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u964d\u6c34\u89c2\u6d4b <\/strong>at Deloraine Railway Bridge, Kimberley and Devonport Airport and other nearby rain gauges can indicate possible flood risks. Given the very short warning times, it is best to act on the predictive BoM warnings rather than wait for any flood alerts during rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rainfall may start impacting the area at the following thresholds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a>25-30mm rainfall in 1 hour<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>90-145mm rainfall over 12-24 hours<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>160-230mm rainfall over 48-72hrs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Abnormally high tides may also cause flooding in low-lying coastal areas around the Port Sorell waterway near the mouth of the Rubicon River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u8fd9 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/products\/IDR523.loop.shtml\">West Takone<\/a> is useful to be aware in real-time where heavy rainfall is falling.&nbsp; If you live in a low-lying area or near a watercourse, your house may flood. Even if your home is safe, you may need to detour around flooded areas or your road access may be cut. Never drive into or enter flood waters. Roads and bridges may be washed out or unsafe. Avoid travel during floods.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u4e86\u89e3\u8be5\u600e\u4e48\u505a\u53ef\u4ee5\u62ef\u6551\u4f60\u7684\u751f\u547d\u5e76\u5e2e\u52a9\u4fdd\u62a4\u4f60\u7684\u8d22\u4ea7\u3002\u5236\u5b9a\u5bb6\u5ead\u5e94\u6025\u8ba1\u5212\u662f\u51c6\u5907\u5de5\u4f5c\u7684\u6700\u4f73\u65b9\u6cd5\u4e4b\u4e00\u3002\u51b3\u5b9a\u5929\u6c14\u548c\u964d\u96e8\u89e6\u53d1\u6761\u4ef6\uff0c\u4ee5\u4fbf\u77e5\u9053\u4f55\u65f6\u91c7\u53d6\u884c\u52a8\u3002.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u6d2a\u6c34\u6c34\u4f4d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While no two floods are the same, the following describes what you can expect at different flood levels around the area. Even if your property is not flooded, you need to think about access. Different levels of rainfall can cause flooding depending on its intensity, duration and how wet the ground is beforehand and where the rain falls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Minor to Moderate Flooding<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u8f7b\u5ea6\u6d2a\u6c34<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A minor flood can inundate low lying paddocks, orchards and other farmland.&nbsp; Stock should be moved for their safety.&nbsp; There may also be some flooding across some minor roads and parkland areas. Areas close to the shoreline may see some higher levels of flooding during higher tides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u4e2d\u5ea6\u6d2a\u6c34<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is more extensive flooding of agricultural land and some buildings may be impacted to above floor height. Some properties may be isolated for a few hours as minor roads become flooded. For example, some properties may see flooding at:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Port Sorell:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Highwater Lane, Seahorse Lane and Rice Street.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Port Sorell Caravan park may begin to flood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hawley Beach:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sankey St<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hawley St.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u7279\u5927\u6d2a\u707e<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If there is major flooding along the Rubicon River and other waterways, there may be flooding in low-lying areas close to the river. That level of flooding is approximately the level of the 2011, 2016 and 2022 floods and there is about a 5% chance of such a flood happening any year.&nbsp; Tasmanians need to be prepared for floods that have a 1% chance of happening every year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on where the rain falls and the level of soil saturation, this level of flooding is likely to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flood some properties in low lying areas near the Rubican River, such as areas of Port Sorell and Shearwater.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Close several roads in the area, including the Bass Highway, Port Sorell Road and other local roads isolating surrounding properties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Isolate several parts of the community including parts of the Bakers Beach area, Narawntapu National Park, Harford and Frankford<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flooding can impact Devonport Airport operations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\"
