After the floods of June 2016, Launceston based artist-run initiative, The Holographic Lounge, teamed up with flood affected Invermay Primary School, meenah neenah Aboriginal Cultural Education Program and Launceston Big Picture School to make three short films. The films deliver key disaster resilience messages to the local community about flood safety. Now the project has been recognised in the Resilient Australia Awards, with an award recognising Resilience in Emergency Situations in the Resilient Australia Schools category. Team Floodscapes will be going to Brisbane early in November for the awards ceremony with Project Manager Karen Revie.<\/p>\n

The Floodscapes films utilise spectacular aerial and drone footage captured by the City of Launceston, SES, Southern Cross television and the general community during the 2016 floods. The footage was overlaid with creative animations derived through a series of artistic workshops with local schools from affected flood areas enabling the children of Launceston to become the guardians and messengers for the city of Launceston.<\/p>\n
