Due to the rapid catchment response, flooding can develop quickly during rain events, causing serious impacts in the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What You Need to Know<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flooding can cut off parts of Railton. It may be hard to leave or get help for some time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Floodwaters might divide the town. It may be difficult to reach evacuation centres or essential services.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It may not be easy to move emergency supplies and sandbags once flooding starts and roads become cut.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If flooding is likely, residents should take action early, such as sandbagging and moving to safety.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There may be no warnings issued for flash flooding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When Could Flooding Happen?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flash flooding can happen with little warning, especially after heavy or ongoing rain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flash flooding may begin 2 to 6 hours after significant rain. &nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Who Is Most at Risk?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>People living in low-lying areas or near Redwater Creek.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Residents who have moved to Railton more recently and may not be familiar with local flood risks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Older residents or those who need help with daily activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When to Act<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You should act if the following rainfall is recorded at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/products\/IDT60801\/IDT60801.94955.shtml\">Sheffield School Farm weather station<\/a>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>20mm in 30 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>38mm in 1 hour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>50mm in 3 hours<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">T\u00f4i n\u00ean l\u00e0m g\u00ec?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Check the map to see whether your home or business is at risk of being flooded. This event inundated 60 houses and 14 businesses, and caused widespread disruption to roads and streets throughout the town. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In past floods, people from Railton have been trapped by flood waters in their cars and on their house roofs. Flooding of Redwater Creek in Railton often occurs at the same time as flooding of other water courses in the area, including the Mersey River and the Dasher River. This means that the roads between Railton and other towns such as Sheffield and Latrobe can be flooded and damaged. This includes parts of Crockers Sr, Esplanade, Foster St, Giblin St, Kimberley Rd, Latrobe Rd and Morrison St.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local roads such as Dowbiggin, Foster, Giblin Morrison Crockers, Esplanade, Railton, New Bed and Native Plains Roads may be affected by floodwater.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Important places like the fire station, service station, childcare centre, Telstra exchange and some shops could flood or become isolated.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>With roads and railway lines cut, travel in and out of town may be affected.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parts of the town could be cut off from each other.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2% AEP (2% chance of occurring in any year)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Potential rainfall trigger: About <strong>80 mm of rain in 6 hours <\/strong>@ <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/products\/IDT60801\/IDT60801.94955.shtml#other_formats\">Sheffield School Farm<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What might happen, as per 10% AEP plus:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flooding spreads further around the town. Around 95 homes and businesses may be flooded or isolated.
