The State Emergency Service is standing up both a Regional and State Operations Centre in Southern Tasmania from midnight tonight, ahead of forecast severe weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A severe weather warning remains in place for heavy rainfall and damaging winds in Southern Tasmania including the Huon Valley, greater Hobart and parts of the East Coast, with the most dangerous weather expected to occur during the early hours of Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SES Acting Director Leon Smith said Tasmanians, particularly those in the South of the state, need to be prepared for heavy rains and flooding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFrom a community preparedness perspective, it\u2019s important for people to understand there will an be impact from rain, but to what extent we can\u2019t categorically say at this point,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe know there is a particular risk of moderate to major flooding in the Huon Valley, but other areas should not be complacent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWith potential thunderstorm activity, we can also expect flash flooding, but we can\u2019t predict exactly where this may occur.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019re anticipating we may start to receive calls for assistance in the early hours of Friday morning, based on the forecast.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn such adverse conditions, if you don\u2019t need to leave your home, don\u2019t do it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019re taking a proactive approach, and we need community members to do so as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
