In Risdon Cove, Risdon Creek may flood<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the East Derwent Highway, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the Aboriginal Children\u2019s Centre, part of Piyura Kitina.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Risdon and Otago have low risk of flooding from rivers. There may be some coastal erosion at Otago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The maps in this guide show the level of flooding that has a 1% chance of happening any year from both rivers and direct rainfall flooding (heavy intense rain). You are likely to experience flooding such as that shown in the maps in your lifetime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if your home is not inundated, you should prepare for<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>isolation plus potential power, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>telecommunications outages.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Travel in the area is likely to be difficult or impossible until roads are clear.&nbsp; If you are safe at home or elsewhere, it is usually best you stay where you are until the flooding subsides. If you need to evacuate, you should leave early, before flood waters rise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The East Derwent Highway may be closed near the Risdon Vale roundabout.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grasstree Hill Road may be flooded by Risdon Vale Creek, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>streets in Risdon Vale may also flood depending on where heavy rain falls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Listen to ABC local radio 936AM for warnings and advice or check TasALERT.com.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Adakah anda berisiko banjir?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This area has not flooded for a long time, but it can happen. No two floods are the same.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If you live in a low-lying area or near a watercourse, your house may flood. Even if your home is safe, you may need to detour around flooded areas or your road access may be cut. Never drive into or enter flood waters. Roads and bridges may be washed out or unsafe. The time between the warning andheavy rain occurring can vary from an hour to 24 hours or more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are no river gauges for the waterways in this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rainfall Observations <\/strong>at Hobart airport, Hobart (Ellerslie Rd) and other nearby rain gauges can indicate possible flood risks. Given the very short warning times, it is best to act on the predictive BoM warnings rather than wait for any flood alerts during rainfall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bom.gov.au\/products\/IDR763.loop.shtml#skip\">Mt Koonya Radar<\/a> is useful to be aware in real-time where heavy rainfall is falling.&nbsp; Radar Rainfall estimates can also fill in gaps in areas where there are no rainfall stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fahami amaran dan maklumat penting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sentiasa peka dengan apa yang berlaku di sekeliling anda. As soon as an incident is reported, TasALERT publishes information including the type and location of incident.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Please Note<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The maps in this plan show data from the Tasmanian Strategic Flood Mapping (TSFM) project. You can explore this data with the Flood Hazard Data layers on <a href=\"file:\/\/hbtshares1\/SESGIS\/SharedInternalData\/Southern%20region\/22.Clarence\/22.1%20Coal%20River%20Richmond%20and%20surrounds\/www.thelist.tas.gov.au\">www.thelist.tas.gov.au<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clarence City Council has detailed flood studies for these areas, see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccc.tas.gov.au\/living\/your%20neighbourhood\/flooding\/\">www.ccc.tas.gov.au\/living\/your neighbourhood\/flooding\/<\/a>. CCC data includes climate change projections, shows flooding at more shallow depths and therefore the flood extents are considerably different and generally larger, than the TSFM extents shown in the maps below. This data is based on rainfall averages from the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Flood levels<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While no two floods are the same, the following describes what you can expect at different flood levels around the area. Even if your property is not flooded, you need to think about access. Different levels of rainfall can cause flooding depending on its intensity, duration and how wet the ground is beforehand and where the rain falls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Banjir kilat<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A minor flood can inundate low lying parkland, gardens, orchards and paddocks.&nbsp; Stock and equipment should be moved.&nbsp; There may also be flooding across some minor roads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Risdon Vale Oval will start to flood.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some properties on Banksia Rd may have flooding in their yards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The land around the Risdon Vale roundabout may begin to flood.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Banjir sederhana<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There is more extensive flooding of parks and streets and some buildings may flood to above floor height. Some properties may be isolated for a few hours as minor roads become flooded. There may be floodwater over parts of the East Derwent Highway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Banjir besar<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Major flooding could be a result of for example<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>30mm of rain in an hour<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>120mm of rain in 24 hours, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>150mm of rain in 48 hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Major flooding will affect widespread areas and may close major transport routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a major flood in Risdon Vale, houses may be flooded above floor height on<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hawthorn Road<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fuschia Road<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heather Road<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Banksia Road and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sycamore Road.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sugarloaf Road could be impassable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Risdon Vale Oval would be flooded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Aboriginal Cultural Centre in Risdon Cove, piyura kitina, would be isolated and the Aboriginal Children\u2019s Centre may be flooded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on where heavy rain falls, this area may also have direct flooding from rainfall, known as flash flooding.
