North West Regional Units

Unit Training
Weekly on Thursday evening from 7pm to 9pm

The Burnie Unit responds to the following emergency operations – general rescue, storm damage and land search and rescue. Volunteers are also trained in air search observation and basic roping.

The Central Coast Unit responds to the following emergency operations – general rescue, storm and flood damage, road crash rescue and land search and rescue. Volunteers are also trained in air search observation and basic roping.

The Circular Head Unit responds to the following emergency operations – general rescue, storm damage, road crash rescue and land search and rescue. Volunteers are also trained in air search observation, basic roping and emergency lighting.

The Kentish Unit responds to the following emergency operations – general rescue, storm damage, road crash rescue and land search and rescue.  Volunteers are also trained in air search observation and basic roping.

The Mersey Unit covers the area of Latrobe and Devonport. It responds to the following emergency operations – general rescue, storm and flood damage and land search and rescue. Volunteers are also trained in emergency lighting, air search observation and basic roping.

Regional Headquarters

The Incident Management Unit provides incident management support the Regional Headquarters staff in Burnie.

The unit has the responsibility to operate the Regional Incident Control Centre and provide emergency radio communications in support of operational activities as required.

Unit Training
Every third week on Wednesday evening from 7:30pm

The Search and Rescue (SAR) Unit undertakes remote area search and rescue operations within the North West Region in support of the the Tasmanian Police.

The team trains in at North West Regional Headquarters, Burnie or at the Mersey SES Unit Headquarters in Devonport. Training includes search and rescue techniques, communications, navigation and first aid. SES Search and Rescue Units have the capacity to rapidly deploy on extended search and rescue operations, regardless of seasonal weather or terrain anywhere in Tasmania.

The Queenstown Unit is one of three units on the West Coast and covers a wide area from Derwent Bridge to Strahan and about 60km along the Anthony Road towards Tullah. The unit responds to the following emergency operations – general rescue, storm damage, road crash rescue and land search and rescue.

The Rosebery Unit is one of 3 units located on the West Coast and responds to the following emergency events – general rescue, storm damage, road crash rescue and land search and rescue.  Volunteers are also trained in air search observation and basic roping.

The Waratah Unit covers a wide area – Hellyer Gorge to the north, Corinna to the west, 30km northwest up to the Western Explorer Road and the municipal boundary of West Coast to the south. The unit responds to the following emergency operations – general rescue, road crash rescue, storm damage and land search and rescue. Volunteers are also trained in basic roping.
