TrainingUnit LevelTraining for volunteers begins in the Unit where trained, experienced members undertake the initial induction and general rescue training. Support for this training is provided by the Regional Staff if required. Regional LevelTasmania has 3 regions with a dedicated training officer in each region. In addition the other regional staff have trainer and assessor qualifications. The Regional Staff have the responsibility of support and guidance to the units. In addition they often coordinate centralised training weekends where members from a number of units within the region undertake specific training together. State LevelBased at the State Headquarters in Hobart is the Learning and Development section. This section is responsible for the development of curriculum, assessment design, training research, workplace Trainer and Assessor training, and staff training and development. SES Tasmania is a Registered Training Organisation, and as such has to meet the very high training, assessment and record keeping standards dictated by the Tasmania Qualifications Authority. The organisation is audited by that authority on a regular basis to ensure it meets all the standards required. All Volunteers in SES Tasmania are required to be assessed as competent
to national competency standards specified in the National Public Safety
Training Package. This package contains a number of qualifications
ranging from Certificate II in Public Safety (SES Operations) to Diploma
level.
