Response Planning for Dangerous Substances (Safe Handling)

Workplace Standards Tasmania (WST) are leading the implementation of new legislation in Tasmania for dangerous substances (safe handling). The new requirements include new emergency planning obligations to enhance the safety of handling dangerous substances.

The table below provides a broad summary of some of the new requirements related to emergency planning and administration of the Dangerous Substances (Safe Handling) Act and Regulations:

Occupiers also have a range of other obligations and therefore may raise other related matters during emergency planning activities, including but not limited to:

• Training for workers and testing plans/procedures
• Emergency equipment/supplies
• Fire protection
• Security (physical and information)
• Providing community information (based in part on emergency procedures/off-site plans).
