Storm SafeStorms can happen anywhere and at any time of the year in Tasmania. Severe storms may cause major damage and be accompanied by torrential rain, strong winds, large hailstone and lightning. Storms can cause flash flooding, unroof buildings and damage trees and powerlines. Even if your property is not damaged, you may be indirectly affected by the loss of power or telephone and access roads may be cut. It is important that you know what to do and where to turn to for help. The SES is responsible for dealing with storms in Tasmania. This includes educating people about how to protect themselves and their property. During a storm, SES volunteers manage storm debris, providing access to homes and businesses, make temporary repairs to storm-damaged structures, give storm safety advice and rescue people trapped or injured by storms. To learn more about what you can do before, during and after storms download the SES StormSafe brochure. If you need assistance during a storm or flood emergency phone the SES on 132 500 |
