The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for North East Tasmania for heavy rainfall and potentially damaging winds for Friday 20 January. Heavy rainfall may lead to flash flooding in some localised areas.
SES advises that road conditions may be dangerous due to heavy rainfall.
Road closures are a possibility.
SES Regional Manager North today said, “Road users are reminded to drive to the conditions. People are particularly reminded not to drive, walk, cycle or swim through flood waters.”
Ms Bradley also said, “Damaging winds for the areas of George Town, Scottsdale, Bridport, Whitemark, St Helens and surrounding areas are also a factor today. Ms Bradley emphasised the danger that debris such as falling tree limbs can cause to public safety. “Today is not the day to be conducting home and garden maintenance activities. Wind debris poses a serious threat to public safety and where possible, SES advises that people stay indoors,” she said.
