Severe Weather Warning for Southern Tasmania

Significant rainfalls down the east coast from Bicheno through to Hobart have caused flash flooding in localized areas.

SES Southern Region has received 23 requests for assistance so far. Four crews are attending these requests. Water inundation into businesses and houses has occurred, water over roads is also being reported. The State Emergency Service advise that information received about current weather conditions indicate that over the next few days there will continue to be significant rainfalls down the east coast.

SES advises the following:

-       Listen to the radio for weather updates.

-       Secure your pets and keep them safe.

-       Keep clear of fallen power lines.

-       Don't drive, ride or walk through water flowing over roads and bridges and obey all road closure signs.

-       Check that family members and neighbours are safe and aware of what is happening.

-       If it is safe to do so, ensure drains and gutters around properties are cleared of rubbish and debris.

Tasmania Police website has up-to-date information of road closures in affected areas. www.police.tas.gov.au/community-alerts Link to External Site
