Severe Weather Warning for Rainfall and Damaging Winds

The Bureau of Meteorology warns of strong and damaging North & North Westerly winds with gusts up to 100km/hr, with 20 – 50mm of rain across the North & North West of Tasmania from Sunday evening into Monday and Tuesday. This may result in some river rises:

  • Meander – moderate
  • South & North Esk – minor
  • Mersey – minor
  • Forth – minor

SES advises the public in these areas:

  • Drive to the conditions - Do not drive, walk, swim or cycle through flood waters
  • People clearing debris near rivers should take necessary precautions due to rapid water rises and possibility of shifting debris.
  • Beware of damaged trees and power lines, due to the saturated ground, trees may fall under weaker winds
  • Farmers and graziers on low lying areas are advised to move stock and agricultural equipment to higher ground
  • Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment (i.e. trampolines are a frequent issue in high winds)
  • Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings
  • Manage pets and livestock
  • Be prepared in case of power outages
  • Stay abreast of road closures by monitoring the Tasmania Police website http://www.police.tas.gov.au/alerts/roads-affected-by-flooding-north-wset-tasmania/ Link to External Site  or by calling 131 444
  • Ensure drains and gutters are clear of debris and are running freely
  • Disaster preparedness is a shared responsibility
  • Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice
