Flood Update 0830hrs

Major flooding is occurring in the South Esk, Macquarie and Meander Rivers, with widespread localised flooding across the state.

Damaging flows from the South Esk River is being experienced now, with an expected peak around 10am.

There is no additional inundation to Invermay, but residents of Invermay are advised to remain extremely vigiliant.

In Newstead, about 50 homes which are already evacuated, are expected to face inundation again.

In Longford the flood peak has passed overnight and the levy has successfully held the floodwaters. Longford can now return to normal business.

There is significant damage to roads and we urge people not to attempt to travel through still or rising floodwaters.

The West Tamar Highway near Tamar Marine is closed to all south bound traffic. Traffic from the Midland Highway (Eastern) part of Illawarra Road, can access Longford without issue. A full road closure list is available

The Tamar Street Bridge is open.

Charles Street Bridge is closed.

We urge people to avoid all non-essential travel and remind the community that safety is a shared responsibility and unnecessary visits to affected areas is unwelcome.
