Severe Weather Warning for Damaging Winds

The Bureau of Meteorology warn of damaging winds of around 60 km/h with peak gusts of 90 km/h from late this evening for the Furneaux Islands and Central North, the northern half of the Midlands, and the east coast north of Bicheno.

SES advises the public in these areas to consider:

  • Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment (i.e. trampolines are a frequent issue in high winds).
  • Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
  • Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.
  • Manage pets and livestock.
  • Be prepared in case of power outages
  • Due to saturated ground in the area, trees may fall under weaker winds.
  • Listen to ABC local radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
