The staff and volunteers of the SES Tasmania respond to many types of emergencies including search and rescue, road crash rescue, storms, floods and general rescue.
In many events the nearest SES Volunteer Unit will respond and call for back up from other units if required. If the response requires multiple Units to attend, then regional staff will coordinate the Units and obtain additional resources as necessary. Each of the SES Volunteer Units provides a 24/7 response capability to their local communities. This service would be beyond the resources of the State if it were not for the volunteers.
If a State response is required, State staff will coordinate the operations of the regions.
In addition to Operational activities, the SES is reponsible for activities such as planning, emergency risk management and supporting recovery. You can find out more about these functions in the Emergency Management area of this website.
