The following government departments, industry associations and other organisations can provide guidance and information.

General information and assistance for affected areas

Call the Tasmanian Flood Recovery Taskforce on 1800 567 567.
Call your local Council.
Visit your local Service Tasmania office (see service.tas.gov.au Link to External Site for outlets).
Listen to ABC local radio.
Go to www.dpipwe.tas.gov.au Link to External Site for information for farmers, dam emergencies, pollution incidents, parks closures, and animal welfare.

TasALERT and Facebook

You can also keep informed through TasALERT www.alert.tas.gov.au Link to External Site the Tasmanian Government’s official emergency information website.

Do not report an emergency or seek assistance through TasALERT or social media channels.

Power outages

To report a power outage call TasNetworks on 132 004.

Aurora Energy

Aurora Energy encourages customers whose property has been affected by the floods to call 1300 102 010 (8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday).
Aurora Energy will assess your situation and provide appropriate assistance for your individual customer circumstances.

Livestock affected by floods; displaced or deceased livestock

For information on caring for livestock affected by the floods, call your regular vet or DPIPWE on 6777 2115.
If you’re moving livestock and need to use a registered railway stock crossing, call TasRail Train Control 6335 2556 for safe authorisation before you cross.

If you find displaced stock, scan (using a microchip scanner) or note the tag numbers and call DPIPWE on 1300 368 550 so the animals can be traced.
If you find dead stock, scan (using a microchip scanner) or visually read the tag, and note the colour of the tag and the location found. Email this information to nlis.tas@dpipwe.tas.gov.au
Please DO NOT REMOVE THE TAG.
Before burial or disposal of carcasses, record all tag numbers or scan the tag and note the colour of the tag (a clear photo can help) for tracking and notification of loss. This information is very important for insurance purposes.

Injured wildlife

For assistance with injured wildlife call DPIPWE on 1300 368 550.

To help care for injured wildlife, call:

  • Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary on 6268 1184
  • Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment on 1300 368 550.

Parks and tracks

For information on parks and tracks affected by the floods go to www.parks.tas.gov.au and search for ‘closures’.

Dam walls

If safe, farmers with dams on their properties should check their dam wall security. This is especially important if any dam wall collapse could impact houses or infrastructure below the dams.
To report a dam safety incident that threatens life or property:

Boil water alerts

To see temporary and permanent boil water alerts, go to www.dhhs.tas.gov.au and search for ‘boil’.

Volunteering

When it’s safe, volunteers may be required to support approved organisations involved in the recovery. To register to be a volunteer and for more information, go to emergencyvolunteering.force.com/Register Link to External Site

There have been no formal requests for volunteers yet.

In the meantime, please stay clear of affected areas and keep safe.
