Volunteering Tasmania

Building Natural Disaster Resilience through Volunteers

The Project will focus on recruiting and managing spontaneous volunteers in an emergency through the implementation of the Emergency Volunteering CREW (Community Response for Extreme Weather) service.

Operational Field Guide

The Project will develop Operational Field Guides for SES Volunteers. The Guides are new and contemporary tool used by SES volunteers in other jurisdictions (Qld, Vic, SA) and acts as a training and operational aid providing easily accessible information to volunteers.



Surf Life Saving Tasmania

Build Training Capacity of Surf Life Saving Tasmania and Volunteer Marine Rescue Members

The project will allow Surf Life Saving Tasmania and Marine Rescue volunteers to complete their Certificate II Coxswains Certificate. 

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority has identified the need for standardised qualifications for all marine rescue craft operators nation-wide.  Completion of this qualification will furnish the volunteer members with the necessary skills and training to ensure they are able to continue their significant role in front-line emergency management.

Northern Regional Unit Training Facility

The project seeks to refurbish the training facility at Young Town by providing contemporary training equipment.



Tasmania Fire Service

Volunteer Brigade Basic Training DVD

The Project will produce a DVD for each Tasmania Fire Service Volunteer Brigade that demonstrates the activities required when completing the Volunteer Brigade Basic Training Course.

SES North West Regional Headquarters Training Room Upgrade

The Project will provide improved training facilities for the SES North-West Regional Headquarters Unit.  This Volunteer Unit provides critical incident management support to emergency services in the region.

SES Burnie Volunteer Unit Training Room Upgrade

The project is to provide improved multi-purpose training and meeting facilities for the SES Burnie Unit.  This volunteer unit provides critical SES operations across the municipal area of the City of Burnie and are expected to be a support resource to emergency services across the north-west region.



Tasmania Fire Service

Enhanced Collaborative Learning between Emergency Services

The Project will develop a sustainable business model to enable collaborative learning opportunities between emergency services including: sharing curriculum; assessments design; and access to training delivered by another emergency service (including access to e-learning opportunities). 



Ambulance Tasmania

Volunteer Incident Support Team

The Project will pre-identify, pre-train and pre-equip a minimum of 20 Volunteer Incident Support Team members to support Ambulance Tasmania operations around the State.  Members will be placed on a state-wide database to be deployed state-wide.



Antarctic Climate & Ecosystems CRC

Projecting Volunteer Resources under Extreme Climate Futures

The Project will consider the impacts of a changing climate on emergency service volunteer resources in Tasmania.  The Project will employ a five stage process to match current emergency service volunteer profile data with Climate Futures for Tasmania climate hazard projections.
