National SES Week 2012

November 12-18

SES Week is a national celebration of the dedication and commitment of the thousands of men and women across Australia who selflessly volunteer their time and energy with their State Emergency Service (SES).  In Tasmania it is an occasion for the community to recognise the contribution of Tasmania’s SES volunteers and say thank you.

The Director of the SES, Mr Andrew Lea said, ‘our 550 SES volunteers come from all walks of life, all adult ages and all shapes and sizes.  Collectively, they give around 26,000 hours a year to conduct nationally recognized training for rescue skills, leadership and first aid, to name a few'.

Tasmania SES volunteers attend 600-1000 emergency call-outs state wide per year for road rescue, storm and flood response, search and rescue or in support of police, fire or ambulance services. They also provide safety support for numerous community events and staff driver reviver sites to help combat driver fatigue.

To show your support for your State Emergency Service volunteers, think orange and Wear Orange to Work on Wednesday 14th November 2012.
