Tasmanian Risk Mitigation Programme

The Tasmanian Risk Mitigation Programme (TRMP) is aimed at identifying and addressing disaster risk priorities throughout the State. It funds disaster mitigation works, measures and related activities that contribute to safer, sustainable communities better able to withstand the effects of disasters.

Funding Arrangements

Generally, the Tasmanian Government will contribute up to 50% of the cost of an approved project. Applicants are required to match this funding, but may contribute more. In-kind contributions are permitted; the value of which must be detailed in the application and expressed in monetary terms.

Eligibility

Organisations eligible to apply for funding under the TRMP are:

  • Local agencies responsible for disaster management and disaster mitigation works; and

  • State government agencies, where that agency is the relevant responsible agency.

Eligible Projects

A wide range of disaster or emergency mitigation works, measures and related activities that seek to treat community risks qualify for funding under the programme.  These include:

  • disaster risk management studies;

  • disaster mitigation strategies;

  • investment in disaster resilient public infrastructure;

  • mitigation measures for all hazards;

  • disaster warning systems;

  • community awareness and readiness measures;

  • disaster and mitigation related research of public benefits;

  • development of nationally consistent data collection and analysis;

  • development of nationally consistent post-disaster evaluations; and

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for disaster mitigation purposes.

Projects previously funded under the programme may be viewed at the link below.

Successful projects

Ineligible Projects

Projects that will not generally be eligible for funding under the TRMP include:

  • projects that would be eligible for funding under the NDMP or the RFMP (except where the project has applied under NDMP and RFMP and been unsuccessful);

  • measures that are a part of normal land management responsibility;

  • on-going maintenance of existing works and measures;

  • restoration or reconstruction of roads unless they are essential parts of a comprehensive approach to natural disaster mitigation, such as improving emergency access capacity;

  • projects that seek reimbursement for works and measures already undertaken; and

  • projects that are designed to protect or which provide a commercial advantage to new private developments.

How to apply

Applications for the TRMP closed on the 10 February 2006 . The next funding round is likely to be announced in March 2007.

Closing Date:                        TBA

Comprehensive details about the Programme are provided in the TRMP Guidelines and you are encouraged to read these before completing the Application Form.
